I’ve made placemat pillows before, but it was so long ago I completely forgot about them until a friend posted the idea on Facebook. Kudos to Frugal-Freebies.com’s Facebook page. The placemats referenced in that post were really nice Fall-leaf placemats from Walmart (shown above), but that was in 2010 and I haven’t been able to find them. Ahh, just found them on eBay.
I once made pillows with Christmas placemats. That was about 20 years ago, so the idea of using placemats for pillows has made the rounds for quite sometime.
I’m posting it here because with Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas coming up, this is the perfect time to start a small project.
Materials Needed:
- Placemats* – Many themed cloth placemats (not vinyl) can be found at your local Walmart. Make sure they are two-sided/reversible and can be opened for stuffing. If not, just sew two placemats together.
- Poly-fil stuffing (one bag will stuff two or three pillows, depending on the size)
- Seam ripper
- Needle and thread or sewing machine
- Matching thread color for each placemat.
Directions:
- Using a seam ripper, open up a small seam but large enough to stuff some poly-fil.
- Continue to stuff until you get the fullness you want. Use a pencil to push stuffing into small corners.
- Sew up the seam, and you’re done!
